Description: June 16, 2000. Russian swimmer Alexander Popov sets the world record for the men's 50m LC freestyle with a mark of 21.64s. As of 2007 Popov still holds the record. The mark was achieved not in a regular race but in a time trial. This video was posted originally in the short-lived site www.swimvideo.ru. Probably you won't find it elsewhere on the web. |

343596 ::: Favorites 2008-01-07 09:08:57 Cause the waves would kill Alex´s World record attempt. You swim faster when not having waves (spelling?) on the sides of you. I think schoeman would got the WR (he was 0.05 away) if he swam the same way (empty lanes on your sides). But on the other hand Popov din´t have any suit so... Anyway Nystrand will break this WR soon/in the olympics. __________________________________________________
winnis13 ::: Favorites 2008-01-03 17:57:41 thats a loada shit, Schoemans 21.69 in 05 should be world record. If that counts then why doesnt Libby Lentons 52.99 stand in womens 100free, doenst mean crap that it was against Phelps she got killed by waves, Fina need to short this shit out. __________________________________________________
bluewhale18 ::: Favorites 2008-01-02 10:01:30 Why are there no swimmers in the lanes either side of him??? __________________________________________________
MaestroSacarias ::: Favorites 2007-12-31 11:43:14 It was during the Russian trials for Sydney 2000. __________________________________________________
swimbeyonder ::: Favorites 2007-12-31 06:31:44 he is the fastest, the others sucks where is here the race? not olympic right?? __________________________________________________
sonofthedestroyer ::: Favorites 2007-12-20 17:18:50 Amazing how Popov seems to make less effort than the other swimmers. Its like watching Asafa Powell running 100 sprint. Win with least effort. __________________________________________________
sonofthedestroyer ::: Favorites 2007-12-20 17:18:00 I think it may have something to do with bouncing off the wall which propels the body. __________________________________________________
343596 ::: Favorites 2007-12-11 13:49:01 That´s good. Work on your stroke efficiency (less strokes in max swimming per 25m) just like Popov did and I sure think you will get under 28 next time you´re competeing. Good luck. __________________________________________________

phyramus7 ::: Favorites 2007-11-17 11:07:09 I notice he had no contestants on the lane next to him not to disturb the tsar's WR attempt. That's fast though. LOL __________________________________________________
MaestroSacarias ::: Favorites 2007-11-11 22:45:07 Hace unos cuatro años un sitio ruso subió el video. El sitio no duró mucho. Era la época pre-youtube. Los videos eran de mejor calidad pero difíciles de encontrar. __________________________________________________
