Description:
To promote his new movie, "Sicko," that documents abuses in the US health care industry, Michael Moore gave his first live interview in over two years to HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher." That interview left me with important questions about the future of healthcare in the US that I pose with this video. To inform those questions, I refer in my video to the following studies of the US health care system: "How Does The Quality Of Care Compare In Five Countries?" available at: http://content.healthaffairs.org/cgi/content/full/23/3/89 "U.S. Health Care Spending In An International Context" available at: http://content.healthaffairs.org/cgi/content/full/23/3/10 and "The Quality of Health Care Delivered to Adults in the United States" available at: http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/abstract/348/26/2635 More info about HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher" is available at: http://www.hbo.com/billmaher/ |

FairMindedCitizen ::: Favorites In a letter to the Wall Street Journal, Robert S. Bell, M.D., President and CEO of University Health Network, Toronto, said that Michael Moore's movie Sicko "exaggerated the performance of the Canadian health system -- there is no doubt that too many patients still stay in our emergency departments waiting for admission to scarce hospital beds." 07-07-19 21:16:54 _____________________________________________________
jackdaripper ::: Favorites your statement is utterly ignorant a large portion of "Medical breakthroughs" happen in countries outside the USA. In those same countries that have universal health care. Get a clue 07-07-20 09:12:06 _____________________________________________________
jackdaripper ::: Favorites i agree with what your saying. on all of his other movies i have disagreed with what he was saying. I totally agree with his message in this movie. 07-07-20 09:13:17 _____________________________________________________
crane3217 ::: Favorites "Large portion?" That implies more than half. I bet there are more cutting edge drug and medical companies in the state of California alone, than the rest of the world. 07-07-20 14:18:25 _____________________________________________________
classiclady ::: Favorites I watch the feel sicko and it was amazing, It a shame the american people, in the most powerful and richest country makes it people pay for health care. I live in england and everything is free. I'm a diabete and get all the medicine free, I wouldn't know what to do If I didn't have the NHS. yeah the system not perfect, it's better than paying for it. hopeful something will happen in america and the people will demand change, and stop being brain wash by the government. 07-07-21 18:44:59 _____________________________________________________
Visfen ::: Favorites From Japan. Not from the US. I think actually Sweden get more medical patents. One thing is true though, the US have the best specialists in the world. But does that really matter if you have to pay them 1000$/hour? 07-07-22 06:38:17 _____________________________________________________

DKaidian ::: Favorites We don't have free universal health coverage because that drives up taxes through the roof, insures for ZERO competition and new research on drugs, and degrades the over quality of service. What nation besides the U.S. comes up with new drugs every year ro fight disease? None, because none of the company in other countries make enough money from a free health care system to afford the research. Yes, the U.S. Health care system has problems, but making it free is NOT the solution. 07-07-25 17:14:47 _____________________________________________________

MrPoncho7 ::: Favorites I'm sorry, but I haven't seen sicko. Can somebody please tell me if Michael Moore actually proposed a SOLUTION to the Health Care system or did he just complain and show the negatives? 07-07-26 18:22:23 _____________________________________________________ |
